The Organ Bath System - 820MO is a fully integrated platform designed for high-precision contractile studies using isolated smooth, skeletal, or cardiac tissue. The system maintains tissue viability in a carefully controlled environment, where segments are submerged in a heated, continuously oxygenated perfusate. Isometric force transducers capture even subtle changes in contraction and relaxation, ensuring reliable and reproducible data.
With a flexible range of mounting options, the 820MO accommodates a wide variety of preparations - including aortic rings, tracheal tissue, veins, uterine strips, colon, ileum, diaphragm, and more. Tissue is immersed in an >8 mL chamber filled with temperature-controlled perfusate. One end is secured to a sensitive isometric force transducer, while the other is connected to a precision micrometer that enables accurate preload adjustment and fine control of resting tension. After mounting and equilibration, researchers can easily establish length-tension relationships and assess tissue responsiveness. During experiments, the muscle length is held constant, and compounds can be added directly to the chamber for functional evaluation. The 820MO eliminates the need to physically swap transducers by offering selectable force ranges, allowing users to optimize sensitivity across different tissue types. The rectangular chamber is constructed from acid-resistant stainless steel, minimizing lipid adhesion and ensuring long-term durability. Regardless of whether rings or long tissue strips (>20 mm) are used, mounting is straightforward. Chambers can be removed and placed under a dissection microscope for rapid, precise setup. For protocols requiring electrical stimulation, the system supports both field and direct stimulation via optional electrode configurations. The robust chamber design and choice of materials significantly reduce maintenance demands. Preparing the system for use is fast and uncomplicated, and post-experiment cleaning typically requires only a few water rinses. The aluminum and stainless-steel components resist corrosion and are engineered for sustained heavy use without the need for elaborate cleaning procedures. The DMT Organ Bath is also compatible with the Automatic Buffer Filler System (625FS), making it an excellent solution for high-throughput screening, drug testing, or experiments where multiple isolated tissues must be maintained in parallel under consistent conditions. |
