Match the resource to the experiment

A useful protocol must fit the system family, preparation, species, tissue size, measurement endpoint and laboratory workflow.

System family Wire, pressure, organ bath or muscle-strip platform.
Preparation Vessel ring, cannulated vessel, tissue strip or muscle.
Endpoint Force, diameter, pressure, flow or electrophysiology.
Research question Reactivity, contraction, structure, screening or mechanics.
Protocols are general starting points and may require adaptation for the selected species, tissue, compound and experimental objective.

Using scientific resources

Adapt protocols to the preparation and research question

Published DMT protocols provide general experimental structure and practical starting points. They are not universal methods for all tissues, species, compounds or disease models.

Laboratories should define their own inclusion criteria, controls, concentrations, timing and analysis procedures based on the biological question and established scientific practice.

Use protocol PDFs together with the current system manual, software documentation, laboratory SOPs and relevant peer-reviewed literature.
System compatibility Confirm that the protocol matches the selected myograph, chamber, accessories and software workflow.
Tissue and species Adapt mounting, resting conditions, agonists, concentrations and timing to the preparation.
Experimental controls Define functional tests, inclusion criteria, negative controls and positive controls before data collection.
Data analysis Establish the analysis method, normalization approach and reporting format before beginning the study.
Training needs Combine written protocols with practical training when users are new to the preparation or system.
