Development
The 900MS 4-channel myograph system is a new system (developed in collaboration with the laboratory of Prof. Avril Somlyo) for molecular studies that focus on the contractile proteins and force development signal transduction research. Key features of this new system are very low volume baths for skinning or permeabilizing small muscle preparations and moving them easily between different cell internal solutions that mimic intracellular environments. The system has 4 independent heated channels. Individual micro-stirring of the small volumes, heating and cooling capability for Q10 studies, and a very sensitive force transducer (μN sensitivity) that is robust to withstand handling. Permeabilization in the 900MS will benefit pharmacological and physiological studies into the signal transduction cascade leading to force generation and studies of the calcium-sensitivity of force. Skinning will benefit physiological and biophysical studies in the molecular mechanisms of force development and actin-myosin interaction.
